Character Info

Character's Name: Greed the Avaricious
Character's Canon: Fullmetal Alchemist
Character's Age: Just shy of 200
Canon Point: Post-canon, about three seconds after he died
Background/History: Here!

Strengths:
-> Independence: out of all his siblings, Greed is the only one who thinks for himself. Instead of a blind loyalty to his father (who repeatedly uses and discards his children for his own ends, not caring for them at all), Greed struck out on his own, betraying his family in favor of pursuing his own desires. This was a particularly notable thing to do, in no small part because Father is not the kind of dude you casually dismiss, but Greed's desire for his own life and indulgences was greater than any loyalty he might have had.

-> Charisma: he's super charming to be around! There's a deep answer here about how he knows a great deal more than his siblings about how humans work and what makes them like you, in no small part because he likes having people around him. Greed is free with praise with his subordinates, alternating between happily chatting with them and maintaining his authority. He's very good at inspiring loyalty in others, both through his actions and his words, and constantly comes across as a mixture of charismatic and (sometimes) appealingly arrogant.

-> Morality: unlike his murderous siblings, Greed is notable for not only not being sociopathic, but actually being capable of attaching to and becoming extremely protective and loyal towards those humans he's befriended. He's determined to keep himself above them, proclaiming himself leader and putting himself on a pedestal (in no small part because it means they're his instead of the other way around), but once you're his, you've got a protector for life. Late in the series, it even extends to innocents: in the final battle, Greed is seen casually keeping people he doesn't know safe, even repeatedly insisting upon it, and he and Ling work together to keep the world from ending.

Weaknesses:
-> Short-sightedness: unlike his Father, Greed doesn't plan ahead, not really. He has ambitions and goals, but he doesn't seem to either lay out a proper plan to get him from point A to point B, nor consider the consequences of his actions. For example: when in hiding from his father, a man who was on the lookout for those individuals who had attempted human transmutation, he showily brought in . . . an individual who had attempted human transmutation, too eager to learn how to become immortal to think of the repercussions. Similarly, later in the series he claims he wants not to rule a country (which would be semi-obtainable for him at the time) but rather the entire world. It might be a bit more sensible for him to start with ruling a country and working his way up, but Greed sets his sights as high as he can and figures out a shaky plan later.

-> Arrogance: while he isn't as bad as some characters in this series, Greed is shown to be overly arrogant, believing in his own invulnerability to the point of destruction. In a fight with Edward, instead of doing the direct thing and beating him down or containing him, he toyed with him, taunting him and enjoying the fight, which gave Ed enough time to figure out how to beat him. Later, when confronted in the sewers by a mysterious man, he thought too highly of his own fighting abilities, messing around until he figured out too late that he was outmatched. He was subsequently killed, alongside all his found family.

-> Lack of insight: I cannot stress enough how little emotional insight Greed has. From his birth two hundred years ago to the very last moments before his death, Greed had no conscious idea that what he truly was, was hopelessly lonely. He assumed that amassing things would eventually satisfy him; it didn't once occur to him that he might be the personification of a person's desire to have companionship. Even as he fought to keep others safe and stop the end of the world, he insisted it was because he really wanted the power of God all for himself, he wasn't doing it to help others, definitely not, obviously we're not going to risk innocents but no, what he wants is power, that surely will help him not feel that gaping hole within him.

Powers/Abilities:
-> Ultimate shield: Greed has what's known as the Ultimate Shield: the ability to harden the carbon in his skin, making his form all but impenetrable (it's gone up against bullets, knives, trucks . . . there's almost nothing it can't stop). While in this form, Greed's fingers also change into claws, capable of cutting through stone, metal, and flesh with equal ease. It's later revealed that he has control over what kind of atomic structure the carbon has; he can make his skin as weak as graphite if he so chooses.

-> Healing ability: Greed's body regenerates almost instantly (though it's worth noting he can't heal and restore his shield at the same time). It doesn't matter what part of his body is hurt; he can even take off his own head and have it grow back, good as new! What a fun party trick.

-> Martial arts: thanks to spending six months sharing a body with Ling Yao, Greed has a fair bit more talent when it comes to hand to hand combat. He is in no way an expert, but combined with his own experience in fighting, he makes for a fairly formidable opponent.

-> Enhanced physiology: While Greed isn't immortal, per se, he also isn't bound by many of the needs and weaknesses humans are. He has no need to breathe, eat, or sleep; he cannot be poisoned, get sick, or otherwise be weakened. He has no limit on his stamina and virility; if need be, he could pull an Energizer Bunny and keep going and going.

Other Noteworthy Traits: He's not actually human! Rather, he's a homunculous-- an artifically made human, built far sturdier than actual human beings. Homunculi are powered by objects called Philosopher's stones, small objects made up of several human sacrifices. The one in Greed acts as a sort of battery: each time they're killed, they use up a soul and return to life.

Which leads me to my second point: Greed isn't immortal, but it takes a hell of a lot to put him down for good. In one notable fight, he's killed fifteen times before he's worn out enough to be knocked out and kidnapped, and even then it took something extreme to finish him off for good.

Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
-> Literally the most unfashionable clothes in the world, plus some tiny glasses.

Color: Red-- more specifically, #be2c35, or something near it. The homunculi's color scheme leans towards black and a darker red, cuz they're cool like that. But I'm not hugely wedded to this; if you need someone to take one for the team and get a light pink as their color, Greed's your man.

Sample: Here he is on the TDM!

[ OPTIONAL ] World Aspect: I don't know if this is too big a change, but maybe the ability to use alchemy? It would take a lot of study for it to be used properly, but some vaguely simplified version might be fun!
